HEADINGTON suffered a shock reverse at the hands of lowly City & County in Division 1 of the Bridle Insurance Oxford & District League.
Although fielding a weaker squad than usual, the runaway leaders would have still expected to beat their struggling rivals, but went down 4-2.
City & County skip Chris Lewis led his rink to a 28-16 victory over Gary May’s team – Headington’s heaviest defeat for many years.
Elsewhere in the top flight, West Witney defeated an almost-certainly relegated Kidlington 5-1, while Banbury Central comfortably saw off Witney Mills 5½-½.
Carterton extended their lead at the top of Division 2 with an easy 5½-½ victory over Charlbury.
However, there was a shock result when bottom of the table Chipping Norton produced a superb display to see off South Oxford 4-2.
Tim Sealey’s men scored six unanswered shots over the last three ends to swing the match in favour of the visitors.
Shiplake eased their relegation worries with a 4½-1½ win over Hanborough.
Division 3 leaders Adderbury outclassed Banbury Central B 5½-½ to increase their advantage over the chasing pack.
They now only need to beat Blackbird Leys in their re-arranged match to secure promotion.
Division 4 continues to produce unforeseen results.
This week leaders Bicester were whitewashed 6-0 by sixth-placed Woodstock.
Second-placed South Oxford B lost 5-1 to West Oxford, who move third.
