OXFORD Saints suffered last-gasp agony as they went down 28-27 to Berkshire Renegades in their Central Conference Division 1 South clash.

The teams once again served up a thrilling clash, with their first fixture of the season ending in a 21-21 draw.

But despite taking a 27-12 lead, Saints were unable to see the game out at Tilsley Park and a dramatic late score saw them slip to an agonising defeat.

The visitors drew first blood, quarterback Dan Storey finding Henry Feurtado to race in for an opening score.

Saints hit back, however, and went in front when Isa Mohammed crossed from 12 yards, shaking off multiple defenders in the process.

Sam Fielden kicked the extra point to give Oxford a 7-6 lead.

They extended their advantage before the break.

James Sharples threw an excellent ball deep downfield, with Charlie Hill claiming the catch to race in for a 33-yard touchdown.

Fielden was off-target with his kick.

Saints started the second period as they finished the first and moved 20-6 in front when Tony Glover charged through for a touchdown from 15 yards.

This seemed to stir Renegades into action and Nick Woods collected a nine-yard pass from Storey to reduce the deficit.

Saints though hit back and when Mohammed scored after another excellent run, Fielden’s successful kick put Stars 27-12 in front.

However, that was as good as it got.

Feurtado went over for a 35-yard touchdown, and Nick Woods secured a two-point conversion by taking a good catch.

Some good defensive play from the visitors stopped Saints from taking a grip on the latter stages.

And it reaped rewards in the final minute when Storey found Feurtado in the end zone again for a nine-yard touchdown.

Trailing by a solitary point, Renegades went for glory, and Storey again was spot-on with his pass, Feurtado claiming a match-winning catch to make it 28-27.

Saints had no time to find a response, and fell to an agonisingly defeat.
