OXFORDSHIRE Under 17s had mixed fortunes as they took on Shropshire in both the ECB County Championship and the Royal London County Cup at Radley College.

A defeat on first innings against the visitors in the two-day championship game was followed with a battling three-wicket win in the one-day cup match, meaning they are just one win away from the semi-finals for the third time in five seasons.

In the championship game, although opener Archie Davis shone with 87, Oxon were in big trouble at 158-8.

Oli Shaw aided a recovery with 40, while No 10 Charlie Oakey hit 64 and shared a last-wicket stand of 62 with Cameron King as the hosts recovered to 270.

But Shropshire’s Connor Steele hit 140 and Harvey Sage 112 as they reached 472 all out from 124 overs.

Skipper George Tait bowled 39 overs, taking 6-108.

Oxon bounced back in style, however, as they beat Shropshire by three wickets to maintain their 100 per cent record in the cup.

Shropshire were bowled out for 213 as Alex Chapman took 4-31.

A captain’s innings of 96 not out from Tait, plus 43 from Shaw, saw Oxon to 214-7.

Victory against Bedfordshire in the final group game will ensure them a place in the semi-finals.
