SIMON Eastwood had no complaints with the stinging assessment which came Oxford United’s way in the wake of their miserable start to the season.

A 4-0 defeat at Barnsley was a fair reflection of a one-sided contest which left the visitors bottom of the fledgling Sky Bet League One table.

U’s head coach Karl Robinson did not pull any punches, before sending the players back out on to the pitch for a sombre debrief amongst themselves.

Eastwood said: “The gaffer kept us in for a bit afterwards and said what he had to say.

“Rightly so, I agree with everything he said.

“The lads just had a little chat (on the pitch) to figure out why we were so poor.

“We were nowhere near good enough. I thought they beat us pretty much everywhere on the pitch.

“It was disappointing because I don’t think we had a spell where we were going to nick something.

“We were always on the back foot and I thought we got overrun in midfield. They were pressing us from the back and we found it hard to play out. It was a disappointing day.”

Eastwood almost added to the calamity in the second half when he scuffed a clearance straight to Kenny Dougall.

The midfielder’s shot from the centre circle was going in, but the back-pedalling goalkeeper just got back to turn it round the post.

He said: “I don’t look at it as a good save because it was from my initial kick.

“I’m just glad it didn’t go in, so it won’t be everywhere on social media.”
