GEORGE Brown, the Oxfordshire-born Test cricketer, has been described as England’s ‘most complete
all-rounder' in a new book.
Brown, who represented Hampshire for more than 30 years, played seven times for England in the 1920s as a wicket-keeper, despite not keeping for his county.
The larger-than-life character, brought up in Temple Cowley, scored more than 25,000 first-class runs and took more than 600 wickets and was one of the finest fielders of his generation.
Despite his talents, Brown is now largely unknown, even in his home city of Oxford.
Author Mike Stimpson hopes this book about his eventful career and life, will give him recognition.
