11:00am Friday 20th April 2012 in Sport
SEVEN rowers from Oxfordshire clubs reached the finals of the Great Britain Under 23 trials at Caversham.
Twin brothers Scott and Mason Durant, from Oxford Brookes, were on opposite sides in the men’s pair final.
Scott and his fellow Brookes partner Matt Tarrant just beat Mason, racing with Fred Gill, from Molesey. The other four were from Wallingford’s women’s squad.
Christina Heemskerk finished sixth in the senior final, while Lottie Burgess, Ellie Piggott and Caroline Greves came second, third and fourth respectively in the lightweight singles.
Wallingford also had nine wins over the 2km Abingdon Head of the River course.
This included victories in eights for their intermediate 2 women and their masters G men, while there was a spread of women and veterans wins in other boats.
City of Oxford recorded six successes – four from their 13 and 15-year-olds.
Hinksey Sculling School had three wins, five seconds and two thirds.
