Brown agrees new Oxford United contract

WAYNE Brown has accepted a new two-year contract to stay at Oxford United.

The 35-year-old goalkeeper will again act as back-up to the U’s number one Ryan Clarke.

His new deal will also see him take on more of a coachng role, assisting Alan Hodgkinson in helping to bring through youngster Max Crocombe.

He said: "I've really enjoyed my time in Oxford and I'm pleased to have extended my stay.

"I feel I still have something to offer as a player, but at the same time I see coaching as my future and I couldn't ask for a better person to learn from than Alan."

Brown made four appearances for the first-team last season, but missed the end of the campaign with a knee injury.

It leaves Adam Chapman as the only player offered a new contract by the U’s last week yet to agree his future.

I agree, he is good too. He is also a versitile player, I do feel central midfield is his best position. Could do with him signing!!

Looks like Evans has a few quid to spend - chasing Midson and signing a couple of decent players. I agree with jonny 1976 Chapman should show some some loyalty to the club. Shame we don't have to funds to attract better quality. Expect Rotherham to to go up next season as we sit back and wait for Oxford city to join us in League two...

Back to the story, Brown signing is a positive move in my opinion. He looked like an able deputy for Clarke, experienced and dependable. Had it not been for his untimely injury he may have had a decent run in the first team.

Agree, we as fans stuck by Chappers and even though it is his life, I think sometimes a situation is so extreme that it deserves a bit of loyalty.

I agree Brown looked decent when he played, Chapman should definitely show loyalty to U's, he seemed to find his feet again at the end of the season so hopefully we'll see more of the same next year, but saying that, it's his life, his career, his choice, if I got offered an extra 20% wages for a job closer to home with a better company then I'd be off in a flash. So would 99% of people in this world I reckon, so no footballer can be blamed for any such decision. We can't expect players to stay with us out of loyalty and hold back their own careers, it just doesn't happen in the real world.
