RUGBY LEAGUE: Cavaliers smash Bristol
10:30am Thursday 5th July 2012 in Sport
A CONVINCING display saw Oxford Cavaliers get their faltering season back on track with an impressive 60-10 home win against Bristol Sonics.
The victory was enough to send the side top of the table on points difference.
The Cavaliers finally found top gear and made Bristol pay heavily for some basic errors.
Winger John Treacy got the ball rolling with a try in the opening five minutes.
Returning skipper John Connaughton pulled the strings in midfield as the hosts made the most of their superior possession.
Jack Briggs scored a quick hat-trick, while James Smith, Jonno Da Silva and Ben Boddinham also touched down.
Briggs kicked three conversions to give the Cavaliers a 36-0 lead at half-time.
Treacy’s second score was sandwiched by two Sonics tries early in the second half, but the Cavaliers went on to finish with a flourish.
Briggs and Jonno Da Silva added to their tallies and the scoring was completed by tries from Tom O’Reilly and Mario Da Silva.
Cavaliers coach Tevita Vaikona said: “There are still things to work on, but to score 60 points against a strong Bristol side is a good sign we’re on track.”
