Sean Rigg says he is loving the challenge at Oxford United
Sean Rigg is looking to build on the confidence gained from opening his Oxford United goalscoring account when their US tour continues tonight.
The summer signing notched his first goal in a U’s shirt in Tuesday’s 2-1 win against Seacoast United Mariners.
Rigg netted ten goals for Port Vale last season, an impressive haul for a wide player.
He will start against Seacoast United Phantoms and the 23-year-old is keen to bag another goal on tour.
He said: “I had enough chances (against the Mariners), but I got there in the end. “You’ve just got to keep going at the end of the day when you miss a couple of chances.
“But at least I was getting in the right positions.
“I love to score goals, I’m going to work hard to get on the scoresheet as much as I can and get a few assists. “It’s all about getting a couple in pre-season to get your confidence up.”
Rigg is one of four signings in the United squad which travelled to the United States for the ten-day tour.
As one of the new faces, he is enjoying the chance to bond with the rest of the players.
He said: “Definitely, as soon as I came here the lads were great, took to me well and welcomed me. “It’s a great opportunity to get to know the lads better and it’s been good so far.
“I like to mix my game up. I enjoy running in behind, but sometimes I’ll come short as well – I feel like I’ve settled in quite quickly and the link-up play has been decent.”
Rigg believes he may only need another two games of 90 minutes to be match fit for the start of the season on August 14 when they host Bournemouth in the Capital One Cup and he has been impressed with the pre-season schedule.
He said: “It’s a lot different to Port Vale, a lot more scientific.
“At Vale it was more old school – (Port Vale manager) Micky Adams ran us into the ground – it’s not all about that and making you sick.
“It’s about doing it the right way and I feel the benefit of it.”
