New speculation over Constable

Uncertainty over James Constable ’s future continues, with Oxford United not commenting on reports of another offer from Bristol Rovers.

The Pirates had two bids for the U’s striker, nicknamed Beano, rejected earlier in the summer, but ahead of the two teams meeting in the league on Saturday, manager Mark McGhee revealed another formal approach had been made.

He said: “We are still trying to persuade Oxford to sell him and, hopefully, we will get a decision this week.”

When asked by the Oxford Mail about the speculation, the U’s declined to give an official comment.

Maybe that is because at the moment there is nothing to comment on and it is purely wild speculation rather than 'news'!

There is also the small matter of a player under contract, loving playing for the club, having already turned down opportunities to talk to other clubs actually wanting to leave.

I think it's mind games they are trying to unsettle the player. What happened when another manager tried that approach? He scored 2 goals.

Unless they stump up £500,000 I can't see him going anywhere.

He'll be sold - if not the rumours wouldn't keep appearing. Club doesn't need distractions already so need to make their mind up. My guess is he'll be gone to Brizzle after we've played them.

If Constable is prepared to move then I reckon the deal will go ahead. After three offers they must have offered over £200k by now which would be a pretty fair price for a not too prolific Division Two striker.

I turned up against B'mouth - Beano didn't. Please, Oxford, take Brizzle's offer. Please.

oufc should learn from last season when midson was sold and had a cracking season for a poor team, rovers want him because they know he can be dangerous, better on our side rather than a team that might be up there. MIGHTY YELLOWS!!!!!

I presume you are saying about PDC playing the mind games. The first game JC scored the 2 goals, wasn't the transfer approach made before the return game and JC was sent off that game without scoring.
As an outsider view - JC has failed to impress in the scoring department perhaps he has a lot of assists.

Take the money. Anything over £200k for a Conference striker is decent.

Er? 'outsider'? Someone as obsessed wih Oxford Utd as you clearly are is hardly an outsider! I doubt you follow the 'other' 90 clubs as closely as you do the two either end of the A420. No, it is clear you secretly love us, but just don't know how to express it - like most stalkers.
