Lenagan: no Coventry approach for Oxford United boss

OXFORD United have not received an official approach from Coventry City to talk to manager Chris Wilder.

Odds on the U's boss taking over at the Ricoh Arena have been slashed over the last 24 hours, fuelling speculation about Wilder succeeding Andy Thorn.

But this morning United owner and chairman Ian Lenagan told the Oxford Mail no contact had been made from the League One club.

He said: "I have not been approached by Coventry City and Chris Wilder has not been approached by anybody.

"So at the current moment there's no substance in the rumours, but obviously that can change from day-to-day."

Wilder, who last week admitted the rumours were a "compliment", wanted to make it clear this afternoon the attention would not prove a distraction ahead of Wednesday's Johnstone's Paint Trophy tie against rivals Swindon Town.

"No, not at all - it's a local derby at our place and it will be a difficult one," he said.

Saying it can change day by day sounds a little like he thinks it might.....

Lets face it if he goes he goes. We will just have to make sure we get someone decent in to do the Job. Someone who knows the club, fans and aims. Ex players maybe? Andy Scott? Jim Magilton? Both are free!

If you want to leave take good care,
Hope you find a lot of nice things to wear
Then a lot of nice things turn bad out there.

No ex-players or those on the managerial merry-go-round.

Paul Tisdale should be our first, best and only choice.

What about the bloke that sits behind Chris Wilder (who upsets him). He clearly knows much more about football than Chris does. He would be my first choice. Nothing wrong with hoofing it up the middle according to this guy.

I see on the Oxford forum you have this obsession with our club as weekly you are posting comments on there about the goings on at our club and only a couple of weeks ago saying what a great job Di Canio had done and now because of our game last week end calling him all sorts of names.

You Oxford fans need to realise Di Canio is a winner he puts pride in what he does and expects 100% comittment every game if you dont he pulls you off.

As for your club i've got no interest what goes on or off the pitch at Oxford we dont write posts every week as we dont give a toss about your small little club

So just to remind you lot:

We won L2 last season - EASILY
Di Canio won manager of the Year
Matt Ritchie player of the year
Final of JPT

With all due respect to Wilder he is a lower league manager and there he will stay.

FOREVER IN OUR SHADOW

Apologies to all Oxford fans regarding LeGobs comments. Not all of us share his opinions. Looking forward to the game tomorrow night and hope it's a close one. Having relatives in Oxford and Swindon puts me in an awkward position. Keep it clean and fight fairly!!

I mentioned Paul Ince on another page and got stick for it. He won league 2 with MK Dons, won the JPT the same season. I only want promotion so he could be a good choice I agree. We havn't got the money to trying to buy out managers as much as people would like Tisdale he would cost us!
