Round-up
BICESTER lost out to 23 Pioneer Regiment in their Mayor’s Charity Shield contest at Oxford Road.
The charity match was played across sevens, tens and 15-a-side matches, with the winner accruing the highest aggregate score.
A minute’s silence was observed beforehand in memory of former Bicester chairman Richard Makepeace, who died earlier in the week.
Mr Makepeace’s long association with the club had also seen him captain the first team in 1969-70 and serve as vice-chairman between 1992 and 2001.
Bicester drew the sevens phase 12-12, with Steve Risbridger and Dan Spencer their try scorers and Spencer converting the first.
Two tries in each half saw the Pioneers triumph 22-0 in the ten-a-side match.
Pioneers won the 15-a-side game 38-5, with Mataiasi Vave (2), Marau Tuiwai, Eliki Qalo, Tonny Mairatu and Balei Suva scoring tries and Suva kicking four conversions.
Dave Aslett bagged Bicester’s try.
