Oxford City’s Hannah England is focusing on the positives, despite missing the World Championships in Berlin.

England missed out on selection for the 1500m Great Britain squad, but remains hopeful that her time will come.

England said: “I am predictably gutted. I can’t believe it happened again.

“But it’s definitely made me really determined not to miss out again.

“Having finished my university studies, I’m now really looking forward to dedicating myself full time to running.

“I think this will bring massive improvements to my performances and hopefully I won’t miss out on selection again.”

England proved her potential just hours after the selections were made with a personal best of 4mins 4.0secs in a race in Monaco, and she is optimistic about her future.

“I trained really hard this year with Berlin as my target.

“It wasn’t to be, but with this in mind, I’m planning to keep on competing through to late September to at least get something more out of my training.

“I managed a pb at Monaco just after selections game out. I was not at all focused on the race and know that with a better mental state, I can run much faster than that.

“I am in Gateshead on August 31 where I will be racing the other British girls and hopefully I can put in a competitive performance.

“I will then go to Riete, Italy, on September 6 to hopefully run another pb.

“I will finish my season with two road miles, one in Gateshead in conjunction with the Great North Run and then one in New York on 5th Avenue.

“In the meantime, I will run an 800m in Cardiff this weekend then sit on my sofa watching the worlds and giving Nathan Douglas a cheer.”
