Great & Little Tew sailed into their maiden Lord’s final after handing hosts Dinton a nine-wicket drubbing in the Davidstow Village Cup.

Tew dominated the semi-final from start to finish to set up a clash with Yorkshire’s Woodhouse Grange – twice former champions – at the home of cricket on Sunday, September 7.

And in doing so they consigned fellow Home Counties Premier League club Dinton to a second successive last-four defeat.

Seamer Lloyd Brock (5-16) and Ashley Hubbert (58no) were Tew’s individual stars, but victory was built around a highly effective team bowling and fielding display in front of around 300 supporters.

This has been the strength of the West Oxfordshire club’s run to the final during which they have enjoyed four dominant victories in the national rounds.

Tew now become the third Oxfordshire club to reach the final of this popular competition, joining Tiddington and Shipton-under-Wychwood in achieving that mark.

Dinton opted to bat after winning the toss, but lost Ashley Smith in the first over without putting a run on the board.

Alan Massey soon followed as the impressive Brock claimed his second victim.

Henry Woodward top-scored with 41 before being stumped off a sloppy shot.

By that stage, Dinton were 99-8 and in all sorts of trouble.

Tew bowled with real discipline, with 18-year-old left-arm spinner Joe Thomas playing a big part.

Dinton enjoyed a mini recovery from 10-3 to 47-4, but could never really get going.

Tew maintained their momentum with Joe Thomas bowling Neil Roberts just before drinks, with Dinton reaching 54-5 at the halfway point of their innings.

Only Faisal Ali and Najam Ur Rehman threatened to pass 20, while Thomas finished with three wickets.

He was ably abetted by fellow left-arm spinner Ian Bryan, who removed Mark Ludlow with a sharp caught and bowled dismissal.

Joe White and Ashley Hubbert got off to a cautious start in reply, but with only three runs an over needed, it was no need to panic.

They were 23-0 off ten overs and 60-1 at drinks, with White having skied the previous ball to Woodward at deep cover.

That was as good as it got for the hosts, with Oxfordshire youth star Jordan Garrett joining Hubbert to see Tew home inside 32 overs.

Dinton had resigned themselves to defeat long before it was confirmed, while Tew didn’t have one nerve-jangling moment.
