Banbury's surprise 15-run defeat at home to Harefield in Serious Cricket Home Counties Premier League Division 1 saw their opponents escape the drop.

Zimbabwe one-day international Chamu Chibhabha was Harefield’s saviour, hitting 97 off 104 balls with 12 fours and three sixes, before taking 2-26.

He led Harefield to 262-7 after they were put in to bat against a Banbury attack, which saw Ed Phillips take 2-35 at first change, while Oxfordshire opening bowler Liam Manley was unused due to injury.

Chibhabha was well supported by Robert Tidey (52).

Nathan Hawkes, with 63 off 86 balls, and Jonny Cater, who made 56 off 68 balls, spearheaded Banbury’s reply until they were bowled out for 247 as Doug King (5-53) polished off the tail.
