Oxfordshire's hopes of being crowned the inaugural Unicorns Counties T20 champions were blown away by a phenomenal display by Cheshire openers Warren Goodwin and Ollie Law at Banbury yesterday.

Goodwin blasted a remarkable unbeaten 132 and Law 101 not out as Cheshire rattled up a staggering 240-0 from their 20 overs after electing to bat first in the final.

Shellshocked Oxon were never in the hunt as they were bowled out for 121 to lose by 119 runs.

Goodwin set the tone for Cheshire’s innings by taking Karl Penhale apart, with the paceman ‘s two overs going for 43 runs.

The rest of the Oxon attack received similar treatment as Goodwin’s runs came off just 61 balls with 12 fours and nine sixes.

Law, who faced 59 deliveries, followed his example by hitting six boundaries and six maximums with the bowling being dispatched to all parts of the ground.

Oxon then succumbed to James Williams (4-17) and Ross Dixon (4-19).

In the semi-finals, Oxon had beaten Bedfordshire by seven wickets on the Duckworth-Lewis Method in a rain-affected match.

Penhale took 4-26 to help reduce Beds to 26-6, before they rallied to make 106-7 from 14 overs.

That left Oxon a revised target of 95 to win, which they achieved with Richard Kaufman hitting a quick-fire 47.
