RAMEEZ Raja made a match-winning contribution for Horspath in the Serious Cricket Home Counties Premier League last week, but according to his skipper Will Eason the best is yet to come.

Forty-eight hours after stepping off a plane, the former Pakistan T20 international scored a half-century and took four wickets as Horspath beat Oxford by five runs in a thrilling start to their Division 2 campaign.

“Considering he was still jet-lagged and hadn’t had time to get used to English pitches, I’m sure Rameez will play even better," said Eason.

Horspath are unchanged for their trip to Gerrards Cross.

Meanwhile, Oxford have a doubt over all-rounder George Munsey ahead of their match at home to newly promoted Cookham Dean.

Munsey suffered a back injury while playing for Oxfordshire against Berkshire on Sunday, and has since contracted tonsillitis.

As a precaution, Andrew Clough and Alex Davis have been added to their squad.

Skipper John Barrett had an encouraging word for young off-spinner Harvey Eltham, who took some punishment against Horspath.

“Horspath’s a small ground, which makes it difficult for spinner. Harvey’s a very talented bowler.”

Thame Town, who beat Gerrards Cross on their league return on Saturday, visit Oxfordshire rivals Shipton-under-Wychwood.

Seamer Sam Lachlan is missing from the Thame line-up, his place being taken by off-spinner Adam Phippin.

Shipton will be without Jamie Perkiin, who is at a stag party, and Matt Brown. George Seacole and the veteran Steve Bates replace them.

After their narrow defeat by Buckingham on Saturday, Shipton are looking to bounce back.

“Thame are one of the teams we need to beat,” said skipper Charlie Brain.

Aston Rowant are unchanged for the trip to Datchet.

They will looking for more big things from talented Miles Hammond, who scored a spectacular century in their 108-run humbling of Amersham.

Although contracted to Gloucesterhire, Hammond is able to play the first half of the campaign for Rowant, which ius good news for skipper Josh Smith and his side.

Banbury skipper Lloyd Sabin praised opener Hugo Darby after they opened their Division 1 campaign with hard-earned 35-run victory at Harefield on Saturday.

Opener Darby carried his bat for 90 in 50 overs to lay the platform for their 234-6.

“It wasn’t an easy pitch to score freely on,” explained Sabin. “But Hugo played a most important sheet-anchor role.”

The only batsman to score freely was Banbury’s Australian recruit Kurtis Patterson, with a lively 36.

“Kurtis looked a good player and I feel he is going to do well for us,” added the skipper.

Banbury are unchanged for their match at home to newly-promoted Finchampstead tomorrow.

Sabin will be hoping to survive his first ball after falling victim to two golden ducks for club and county last weekend.

Great & Little Tew, who lost heavily to Henley on their top-flight debut last week, should face an easier test at home toReading tomorrow.
