MALCOLM Evans and Andrew Wingfield Digby shone as Oxfordshire Over 60s ended Northants’ unbeaten record with a thrilling four-wicket victory at Sandford St Martin.
Northants, who had not been beaten in a ECB 60-plus Championship group match for two seasons, scored 180-6 from their 45 overs. Ray Swann, father of former England off-spinner Graeme, top-scored with 60.
Oxon were in trouble at 42-4 but a hard-hit 51, including two sixes, from Evans steadied the innings, before Wingfield Digby’s 46 not out secured victory with two balls to spare.
Oxon Over 50’s B team made it three wins out of three when they beat Hertfordshire by 50 runs at Langleybury.
Stuart Bullen took 3-25 as the hosts were dismissed for 140 in 42 overs.
Jon Atkins (33) and Ross Buchanan (41no) saw the visitors home by four wickets.
