OXFORDSHIRE Over 50s were jubilant after pulling off a remarkable 13-run victory over defending champions Yorkshire at Acomb in the last 16 of the ECB 50-Plus competition.

Darryl Woods (57) held the Oxon innings together, before a supporting knock of 32 from Nick Moorman helped them to 176-9 from their 45 overs.

Oxon’s bowlers stuck to their guns with Alec Cunningham (3-25) and Mike Simpson (3-40) keeping Yorkshire in check.

The game was in the balance before the home side were dismissed for 163 with 1.3 overs left.

Oxon’s reward is a quarter-final against Leicestershire & Rutland at Lutterworth next Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Oxfordshire Over 60s were crowned West Midlands Champions as they defeated Shropshire by seven wickets at Shrewsbury.

Shropshire, choosing to bat first, were dismissed for 158 after 45 overs, thanks largely to Jim Blackford, who finished with figures of 4-18 from nine overs.

An unbeaten 56 from Adrian Manger, with main support from Derek Watts (30), sped the visitors to victory.
