OXFORDSHIRE Over 50s B team paid tribute to their manager Chris Bishop after winning the Southern Counties Senior Championship.

Entering the competition for the first time, Oxfordshire secured a seven-wicket win over Hampshire in the final at Trowbridge.

In his acceptance speech, Ross Buchanan dedicated the victory to Bishop, who at the time was seriously ill before his sad death this week.

Put in to bat, Hampshire got off to a flying start, reaching 61-0 in 13 overs.

Then after a 50-minute break for rain, Chris Panter took a brilliant one-handed catch at gully to break the opening stand.

Hants slumped to 111-7 before recovering to 196 all out in the 44th over.

Shaun Miller took 3-21 in nine overs and was well supported by Steve Kelly and Stuart Bullen.

Openers Johnny Atkins (61) and Ian Harris (39) gave the Oxon reply a great start with a stand of 83.

Then a superb partnership of 88 between Atkins and Aftab Alam (46) put Oxon course for victory, which was achieved with 6.5 overs to spare.
