CRICKET: Hartley's heroics


MP Sports Cherwell League - Division 2

Seamer Danny Hartley produced figures of 7-24 from a devastating 12-over spell as Abingdon Vale beat Banbury 2nd by nine wickets.

Hartley was supported by Graham Charlesworth, who took 3-15 from 12.3 overs as Banbury chose to bat first, only to be bowled out for 43.

Vale then eased to 44-1 and so achieved their highest league finish since 1996.

Sandford St Martin ended on a high by winning at champions Oxford & Bletchingdon Nondescripts.

Andy Gough (57) and Alex Kill (43) helped the visitors post 172-8, while Sanjay Vinjimoor claimed 6-31.

Mark Robey then took 3-17 in Nondies’ 155.

Oxford & Bletch 5, Sandford St M 25

Banbury Twenty lost out to Leighton Buzzard Town by one wicket in a thriller.

Lee Selfe bagged 7-37 from 21 overs to dismiss Twenty for 137. But Keith Arnold (5-54) led a fightback that saw Town in turmoil on 84-7, before Tom Light (31no) helped pull off a narrow victory.

Tiddington lost to Wolveton – and failed to win any of their final seven matches.

Wolverton made 189, with Matt Maule taking 4-36 and Johnny Clarke 3-50.

But Tiddington were bowled out for 134 in reply.

Tiddington 7, Wolverton Town 25

Twyford came within one wicket of pulling off only their second win of the season.

Harry Bowles took 5-36 as Long Marston were bowled out for 155, before hitting 72, as Marston got home on 157-9 despite Ian Perna’s 4-28.
