CRICKET: Oxon's Trophy game under threat

Oxfordshire are seeking a ground on which to play their Minor Counties Trophy match against Hertfordshire tomorrow after Oxford Downs were ruled out due to waterlogging.

It would have been Downs’s first senior competitive county game on their ground, but club officials ruled it unfit on Thursday afternoon.

Oxfordshire Cricket Board secretary, Peter O’Neill contacted other clubs to see if they could stage the game.

The Banbury and Great Tew grounds were also deemed unfit after recent heavy rain.

“It’s not looking good,” said O’Neill. “It’s not just about the ground, because catering arrangements also have to be made at short notice.”

O’Neill said they had given themselves until this morning to make a decision.

Oxfordshire’s first game in the competititon against Cornwall a fortnight ago was called off.
