CRICKET: Megson takes a step up
BANBURY’S 16-year-old all-rounder Josh Megson enjoyed encouraging Gloucestershire 2nd XI debuts in two forms of the game.
Seamer Megson took 1-35 from 13 overs in the first innings and claimed 1-52 from 13, plus 10 not out in the second of Gloucestershire’s friendly defeat to Ireland A in a three-day game at Bath.
Megson then appeared in two second XI Twenty20 championship games against Glamorgan in Cardiff where he faced former Test players Robert Croft, Simon Jones and Martin Van Jaarsveld.
In the first game, Glamorgan made 165-7, Megson proving the most economical of the bowlers as his three overs yielded 19 runs.
In reply, Gloucestershire cruised to 168-3, with Oxfordshire’s Jack Taylor smashing 97 not out off only 48 balls.
The second game saw the Welshmen amass 219-6, with Megson’s four overs bringing him 2-38.
Gloucester could only manage 142 in reply – Oxon’s Matt Taylor top scoring with 32 not out.
- BOTH Oxfordshire semi-finals in the Yorkshire Tea Village Cup fell victim to the rain on Sunday.
As a result, Oxford Downs will now host Cumnor and Great & Little Tew entertain Challow & Childrey this week.
