CRICKET: Banbury edged out in thriller

BLEDLOW Village beat Banbury 3rd by one wicket in a thrilling finish to claim second place.

In a rain-affected match Banbury’s innings was cut to 44 overs, from which they managed 128-6. Jamie Coles hit 32 and Mickey Thomas 30, while James Shirley took 3-14 and Mike King 3-30.

Adam Mould made 38 for Bledlow, but James Risbridger (5-29) and Thomas (3-23) made them fight all the way for their 130-9.

Kingston Bagpuize were struggling on 13-4 from 11 overs when they were saved by the rain, Michael Cappelluti having taken 3-7.

Cropredy were defending 234-9 after Luke Cherry made 68 and Ed Somerton 65, while Dave Ward took 3-34 and Matthew Warner 3-52.

Paul Atkins (67no) and Russell Haynes (39) took Chearsley to 207-5 at Bicester & North Oxford, who were on 50-3 from 18 overs when rain ended the match.

Jason Hunt hit 43 as Shipton-under-Wychwood 2nd made 173-9 in a rain-reduced innings, Richard Tilley taking 3-49 for Witney Mills.

Mills were 25-0 when further rain stopped play.

Conor Taylor (124no) and Martin Middleton (58) led leaders Bledlow Ridge to 206-2 and an eight-wicket win over Dinton 2nd.

Mark Dakin (7-90) had restricted Dinton to 204-8, Kelvin Ripley hitting 63.
