CRICKET: Shabaz shines with 7-6

SHABAZ Alam returned the incredible figures of 7-6 as Oxford & Bletchingdon Nondescripts cruised into the quarter-finals.

Alam’s haul, which came in just 3.2 overs, ensured Sandford St Martin were all out for 58.

Nondies them romped home by nine wickets to set up a home tie with Great & Little Tew tonight.

The battle of the big guns in the last eight was surprisingly one-sided, with Banbury hammering holders Shipton-under-Wychwood by eight wickets.

Shipton were all out for 61 as spinners Luke Ryan (3-9) and Jimmy Phillips (3-19) led the way. Banbury eased to 62-2.

Banbury will visit Oxford Downs or Oxford in the semi-finals, while Aston Rowant will host Nondies or Tew.

Rowant defeated Cumnor by nine wickets in their quarter-final.

Tom Ingram made 92 and Miles Hammond 38 in Cumnor’s 162-4.

But Josh Smith (73no) and Chris Watling (59no) took Rowant to 164-1 with nine balls to spare.
