CRICKET: Duo into national finals

FREELAND and Banbury have reached the national finals of the ECB Lady Taverners T20 Competitions after superb performances.

In the Under 15s, reigning national champions Freeland cruised to a nine-wicket win over Shropshire side Worfield in the quarter-final.

And a 32-run win over Willington, from County Durham, in the semi-final saw them book their place in the national finals.

Captain Carla Wood took 3-10 against Worfield and then hit 38 against Willington.

In the Under 13s, Banbury thrashed Harold Wood, from Essex, in their quarter-final.

Ellie Noble took 5-14 as their opponents were shot out for just 33 in a nine-wicket win.

Banbury faced Sussex side Horsham in the semi-final, and after the game was abandoned due to rain, Banbury won a bowl-out 2-0.

Charlbury also reached the quarter-finals, but lost by nine wickets to Yorkshire side Sheffield Transport.

RESULTS

Lady Taverners Under 13 Quarter-finals: Harold Wood 33 (E Noble 5-14), Banbury 35-1; Charlbury 102-7 (N Hodkinson 23), Sheffield Transport 103-1. Semi-final: Banbury v Horsham – abandoned. Banbury won bowl-out 2-0.

Lady Taverners Under 15 Quarter-final: Worfield 45 (C Wood 3-10), Freeland 46-1. Semi-final: Freeland 132-5 (C Wood 38, S Halsey 25), Willington 100-4.

  • CHARBURY’S women completed the double over county rivals Oxford with a ten-wicket win in their ECB East Midlands League Division 1 clash.

Oxford were all out for 52 in the 22nd over, with Ellie Norton, Nicola Scull and Juliet Gardner bagging three wickets apiece.

Charlbury reached the target in the 12th over without loss.

RESULT

Oxford 52 (C Dowhunek 21, J Gardner 3-3, E Norton 3-17, N Scull 3-17), Charlbury 57-0 (G Muttitt 20).
