OXFORDSHIRE Under 16s tasted victory and defeat from their two warm-up games ahead of the Jersey Festival.

After losing by five wickets at Berkshire, Oxon hit back with a 70-run success at home to Gloucestershire.

Despite scoring 247-6 from their 50 overs against Berkshire, they went down by five wickets after a superb century from the hosts’ Firoz Beg.

Opener Markus Jeacock (84), skipper Andrew Tolson (42) and a quickfire 40 from Dan Matthews helped Oxon to a decent total.

But Beg stole the show with an unbeaten 115.

However, Oxfordshire replied with a 70-run victory over Gloucestershire at Stonesfield.

They amassed 248-9, thanks largely to an 80-run seventh-wicket partnership between Angus Spittles (46) and Tom Costley (38).

The home side then bowled and fielded superbly to dismiss their visitors for 178.

Christian Hollingworth was the pick of the bowlers with 3-27, while Costley and Tolson claimed two wickets apiece.
