RAIN was the major player, with only a handful of games reaching a conclusion on Saturday.

Charlbury defeated hosts Stonesfield in a Division 1 game reduced to 25 overs per innings before the start in a bid to gain a result.

And it proved a good decision as the home side were restricted to 128-8, before Graham Atkins (49) and Ben Geeson-Brown (40no) led Charlbury to 129-3.

Elsewhere in Division 1, Great Horwood had been reduced to 124-7 at Faringdon before the match was abandoned, while Minster Lovell were 141-6 at home to Radley when the rain came.

The match at Chipping Norton against Shrivenham was a washout out before the start.

In Division 2, Marsh Gibbon saw off hosts Wootton & Boars Hill by eight wickets.

Joe Leonard took 5-22 as Wootton were shot out for 112, before Stuart Leonard hit 46 not out to lead Marsh to 115-2.

There was also a result at Broughton & North Newington, where Wolvercote ran out two-run victors.

Rhys Davies top-scored with 41 not out in Wolvercote’s 120-7, and Broughton could manage only 118-8 in reply, Clark Berry hitting 46 not out.

Steven Hunt’s unbeaten 50 was in vain for Chadlington at East & West Hendred, where the match was called off with the visitors 165-4.

Witney Swifts were denied at home to Clifton Hampden, who were 125-8 when the rain came.

In Division 3, no matches reached a conclusion, but there was enough time for some notable performances.

Hari Lehal hit 92 in Kidlington’s 212-8 at Fringford before the match was abandoned, while at Marcham, Eynsham’s Sam Jones defied the wet conditions to score a brilliant 118 in his side’s 212 all out.

Michael Palmer claimed 5-55 for Marcham, but again the rain had the final say.

In Division 4, Hailey declared their innings on 209-7 in a bid to claim a result at home to Dorchester.

Will Anastasiadis took 5-60 for the visitors, but there was no chance of a reply as the rain arrived.

Will Wright took 6-29 for West Ilsley to help dismiss hosts Sunningwell for 86 before the heavens opened.

Uffington were staring down the barrel having been shot out for 68 at home to Minster Lovell, only for the bad weather to rescue them.

DIVISIONS 5-9

DIVISION 5 boasted two positive results across the weekend, but unfortunately for Garsington they ended up on the losing side on both occasions.

On Saturday, they had restricted visitors Kennington to 97-7 in a match reduced to 30 overs a side.

But 3-2 from Russell Vircavs and 3-23 from Duncan Robson tumbled Garsington out for 67.

On Sunday, Julian Easterbrook took 4-21 in Garsington’s 63 all out, and Bampton reached 64-7 to seal victory.

In Division 6, Wolvercote 2nd wasted little time in convincingly beating visitors Radley 2nd by ten wickets before the rain arrived.

Toby Shelley (4-11) and Jason Elliott (3-19) combined to skittle Radley out for 35, before Wolvercote raced to 36-0.

Division 7 saw a couple of victories recorded as Combe beat visitors Witney Swifts 2nd by five wickets, while Kilkenny 2nd thumped Hanborough 2nd by nine wickets.

At Combe, Mike Eeley took 5-29 and Dave Gardner 3-35 in Swifts’ 79 all out, before Mark Westerby hit 41 in Combe’s 80-5.

Kilkenny romped to victory at home to Hanborough 2nd.

Adam Bezance took 4-14 in Hanborough’s 66-6 in 25 overs, before Tom Clapham (42) led Kilkenny to 67-1.

Stanton Harcourt 2nd defied the wet weather to record a four-wicket win at Dorchester 2nd in Division 8.

Ryan Wastie’s 4-18 reduced the hosts to 104 all out, despite 50 from John Hyde.

Charlie Waite (55no) was then the star for Stanton as his knock helped them to 105-6.
