CUMNOR were denied victory by Horspath 2nd’s last pair in a thrilling top-flight Cherwell League clash.

Horspath put their visitors in to bat first, and Cumnor posted a competitive 250 all out as Harry Ackland top-scored with 52.

Tom King (53) and Kit Cutter (51) shone in Horspath’s reply, but the home side lost regular wickets as Andrew Russell claimed 4-45.

In the end, Horspath were left clinging on at 186-9 when stumps were drawn.

Aston Rowant 2nd could not prise out Leighton Buzzard’s final two wickets as they too had to settle for a draw.

Batting first, Rowant set 214-6 in their 53 overs as Alex Jewell hit 52 and Andrew Dyer 45.

Gordon Harris claimed 4-36 in Buzzard’s reply, but a match that could have ended with any one of three results, ended in a draw as the hosts closed on 201-8, with Adam Culley hitting 58.

Banbury 2nd crashed to a 118-run defeat at Long Marston as the home side’s James Beesley took magnificent figures of 8-55.

Simon Butler had earlier smashed 116 and Matthew Storey 82 as Marston racked up 276-5 in their 53 overs.

Josh Megson hit 78 not out in Banbury’s reply, but Beesley’s haul saw Banbury tumbled out for 158.

Tiddington set visitors Great Brickhill 204 for victory, but it was nowhere near enough as Brickhill cruised to an eight-wicket win.

Matt Maule (37), Nick Pykett (35) and Max Smith (32) shone in Tiddington’s 203-9.

But Graeme Carter’s unbeaten 100 and 91 from Mark Nelson saw Brickhill to 206-2 in the 39th over.

Twyford fell to a six-run defeat at home to Dinton.

Bilal Afzal had taken 3-16 in Dinton’s below-par 143 all out, but figures of 4-51 from Will Fisher and 3-16 from Adam Mould saw Twyford tumbled out for 137 in reply.

CHALLOW & Childrey made it two wins from two after a four-wicket success at home to Cropredy in Division 2.

Cropredy opted to bat first, and were restricted to 189-9 as Conor Jones took 4-30, while Luke Cherry hit 56 for the visitors.

Ryan Gordon (92) and Justin Penrose then starred in Challow’s reply as they reached 190-6 in the 42nd over, Jacob Heath taking 4-47.

Oxford & Bletchingdon Nondescripts saw off hosts Wolverton Town by four wickets.

Abdullah Sadiqi took superb figures of 5-10 to help dismiss Wolverton for 159 inside 40 overs.

Oxford 2nd’s poor start to the season continued as they fell to a crushing seven-wicket defeat at Sandford St Martin.

Only Alex Davies (47) got going as Oxford were bowled out for 162, Simon Smith taking 4-25.

Kris Jones (46no) and Nick Leader (43no) then led Sandford home in the 36th over at 165-3.

Oxford Downs and Great & Little 2nd battled out a draw at Standlake.

Tew put the hosts into bat after winning the toss, and James Lauder (71no) and Amin Rafiq (53) shone to see Downs to a competitive 256-5 in their 53 overs.

Justin Parker top-scored with 68 in Tew’s reply, but they could not really threaten, closing on 208-7, Johnny Law taking 3-46.

Joe Butcher starred with bat and ball for Abingdon Vale, but his heroics could not force victory as hosts Buckingham Town 2nd clung on for a draw.

Sam Chilvers (50no) and Butcher (49) helped Vale to 192-8 in their 53 overs.

Butcher then claimed 5-43 in Buckingham’s reply, but their stubborn tail held firm as stumps were drawn at 136-9.

MARK Carey slammed a brilliant century to help Blewbury & Wallingford to a six-wicket win at home to Oxford Downs 2nd.

Batting first, Downs struggled to 170 all out as Scott Harris starred with 5-45.

It never looked like being enough as Carey hit 110 and Joey Edwards 40, seeing Blewbury to 174-4 in the 35th over, despite the efforts of Darryl Woods, who claimed 3-10.

Horley were too strong for hosts Cublington as they cruised to a 140-run success.

Stephen King hit 72 and Steve Palmer 40 as Horley racked up 282-9 in their 53 overs.

Palmer then took centre stage with ball in hand as his haul of 5-22 helped to dismiss the hosts for 142.

Banbury 3rd crashed to a nine-wicket defeat at Bledlow Village, who are the early pacesetters.

Three wickets apiece for Matthew Bolton, David Pearce and Matthew Pearce helped to dismiss Banbury for only 133.

Olly Woodward then hit 64 and Tom Moore 46 not out to lead Bledlow to 136-1 in the 27th over.

Tiddington 2nd slipped to a six-wicket defeat at Great Brickhill 2nd.

Only John Mackie (36) really got going for the visitors as they were dismissed for 174, James Clarke taking 3-29 and Lawrence Armstrong 3-37.

Richard Winchester then hit 68 in Brickhill’s reply as they reached 178-4.

EAST Oxford cruised to an eight-wicket win at Dinton 2nd.

Johannes Jacobus took 4-46 and Chetan Walia 3-37 as Dinton were bowled out for 180.

Ali Shah then hit 87 and Jacobus 59 to see East Oxford to 181-2 in reply.

Witney Mills cruised to a 112-run victory at Oxford 3rd to get their first win on the board.

Jamie Trudgeon was the star of the show, hitting 121 not out in Mills’s 268-7 declared in 50 overs.

Vivian Lobo then claimed 4-8 and Steve Kelly 4-37 as Oxford crashed to 156 all

out.

Westbury posted their second win, defeating local rivals Brackley by 90 runs.

Tom Wilson’s 67 was the main contribution in Westbury’s 161 all out.

Charlie Harper then claimed 5-20 and Charlie Purton 3-42 as Brackley were shot out for just 71 in reply.

Bicester & North Oxford thrashed hosts Bletchley Town by 199 runs.

Nick Moorman (66) and Stafford Sansome (62) shared a 142-run stand for the first wicket as Bicester racked up 283-7 in their 53 overs, Alistair Gibbins also adding 68.

In reply, Bletchley were never in the hunt as leg spinner Richard Simpson took 4-12 and Dan Savin 3-25, Bletchley slumping to 84 all out.

Stokenchurch saw off visitors Kimble by eight wickets.

Mohammed Shakil claimed 5-31 and Ashley Hunt 4-32 in Kimble’s 137 all out, before Arshad Latif hit 70 not out to see Stokenchurch to 138-2 in the 26th over.

THAME Town 2nd are the early pacesetters after a crushing nine-wicket win at home to Didcot 2nd.

Chris Jeffcock claimed impressive figures of 4-6 and Ian McStay 3-15 as the visitors were shot out for just 67 in 28.3 overs at Church Meadow.

Thame wasted little time reaching the target, cruising to 71-1 in 12.3 overs.

Abingdon Vale 2nd were handed victory after an error from Bledlow Ridge saw them forced to forfeit their clash.

Ian Murdoch bowled 18 overs for the visitors, and with no-one permitted to deliver more than a third of their side’s allocation, Abingdon picked up maximum points.

Cumnor 2nd beat visitors Kingston Bagpuize by 147 runs in a one-sided affair.

Mark Farmer (63) top-scored as Cumnor declared on 268-7 in 50 overs.

Chris De Verteuill then claimed 5-18 as Kingston fell to 121 all out in their reply.

Banbury 4th crashed to 81 all out at home to Chearsley, who ran out eight-wicket winners.

Ed Holland was the star of the show for Chearsley as he claimed 7-31, before Andy Crichton hit 39 not out to lead the visitors to 82-2.

Horspath 3rd emulated their second team by clinging on for a draw with nine wickets down at Leighton Buzzard 2nd.

Gareth Benger hit 55 not out in Buzzard’s 197-9, Chris Fox taking 4-51.

In reply, Adrian Manger top-scored with 63 not out and Chris Jones hit 36, but Horspath were forced to cling on at 161-9.

NEW boys Westbury 2nd embarrassed hosts Brackley 2nd in Division 8, bowling them out for one of the lowest scores ever recorded in the Cherwell League.

Westbury were all out for 129, but needn’t have worried about the low total as Will Woodward took 5-3 and Nick Blithe 4-8 ripped through Brackley for just 12.

Guy Redgard-Siler claimed a seven-wicket haul to help Aston Rowant to a 130-run win over visitors Bledlow Village 2nd in Division 6.

Sam Shepherd (73) and Paul Plumridge (60) took Rowant to 202 all out in 50.2 overs, and this target proved way beyond Bledlow as Redgard-Siller took 7-26 to help dismiss them for just 72.

In Division 7, Haris Naeem fell just short of a century as Bicester & North Oxford 2nd drew with Cublington at Chesterton.

Bicester posted 226-8 in their 45 overs as Naeem hit 97 and Matthew Collins 62.

Cublington never threatened the target as they crawled to 159-4 in their reply.

In Division 9 South, Dan Costello’s 95 not out helped Didcot 3rd to a thrilling one-wicket win at Challow & Childrey 3rd.

Challow were all out for 182, Phil Cox top-scoring with 46.

Thomas Hannaby took 3-40 in Didcot’s reply, but Costello’s fine knock saw Didcot to the slimmest of victories.
