HORSPATH edged a thrilling clash at Tiddington by five runs off the penultimate ball to move up to second place in Division 1 of the Cherwell League.

After winning the toss, Horspath opted to bat first, but got off to a dreadful start as they were quickly reduced to 4-2 after losing Dominic O’Connor and Joe Todd for ducks.

They recovered to post 153 all out, Jehan Mohammed top-scoring with 42 not out and Stephen Green hitting 35.

Spinner Ban Smith was the pick of the Tiddington attack with 4-50, while William Johnson-Coleman took 3-49.

Although Will Goodman (52) and Matthew Johnston (34) shared 51 for the second wicket, the hosts had no answer to the bowling of Mohammed, who finished with 5-49 from 16 overs to help dismiss them for 147 with one ball remaining.

Aston Rowant 2nd inflicted Cumnor’s first defeat as they won by three wickets.

Visitors Cumnor were thankful to Joe Dale’s 46 as they recovered from 62-7 to reach 134, Gordon Harris taking 5-32.

A 54-run opening stand between Tim Morgan (35) and Chris Eaton (24) set the hosts on their way, before a cluster of middle order wickets saw them slump to 106-6, Devane Warner taking 3-44.

But Rowant held their nerve to earn victory in the 32nd over.

Banbury 2nd could only draw with visitors Twyford, who clung on seven wickets down.

Batting first, Banbury were all out in the 52nd over for 250 as Jamie Coles hit 57 and Bilal Afzal took 4-39.

Twyford’s Shahid Mahmood shone with 90, but Stephen Hart (4-43) ensured the visitors were hanging on at 197-7 at the end.

Mike Sutliff’s 107 not out and Ryan Chapman’s 4-51 helped Dinton to a five-wicket win over Leighton Buzzard Town.

Buzzard posted 204-9 in their 53 overs as Phil Whatmore hit 100, but the hosts needed just 41 overs to reach 208-5 as Sutliff led the way.

Great Brickhill eased to a seven-wicket win at Long Marston.

The hosts set 210-4 in their 53 overs as Sam Bastin hit 102 not out and Zack Wade 59 not out.

But Brickhill cruised to victory with 11 overs to spare as Doug Aris hit 71 not out and Graeme Carter 67.

JOHNNY Law took an incredible nine wickets as Oxford Downs thrashed hosts Sandford St Martin by 223 runs.

The victory helped the west Oxfordshire side moved up to second in the table after four matches.

Downs declared on 291-8 in 48 overs as skipper Wasim Mehmood smashed a brilliant 112 and Chris Sandbach impressed with 76.

But it was Law who went on to steal all the headlines with the ball.

Although Harry Sutton removed opener Chris Thompson for a duck, Law hastily ran through the rest of the order.

He returned outstanding figures of 9-31 in 14.4 overs as Sandford were shot out in 28.4 overs for just 68.

Cropredy saw off hosts Oxford & Bletchingdon Nondescripts by 42 runs.

They were put in by the hosts after losing the toss, and the north Oxfordshire outfit set 261-8 as Ross Beckett top-scored with 43.

Atif Ali hit a fluent 81 in Nondies’ reply, but three wickets apiece for Beckett (3-43) and Jamie Jennings (3-64) saw Nondies bowled out with just under four overs left.

Abingdon Vale eased to an eight-wicket win at home to Wolverton after skittling their visitors out for just 81.

Graham Charlesworth was the pick of the attack with 4-23, while Paul White took 3-12.

Amith Premkumar hit 41 not out in Vale’s reply to lead his side to a healthy 82-2 in just 13.2 overs.

Oxford 2nd lost their third straight match of the season as they crashed to a six wicket defeat at Buckingham Town 2nd.

Josh Nix took 5-21 as Oxford crumbled to 155 all out, before Steve Lewis hit 75 to lead the hosts to 158-4.

DAVE Clark hammered an unbeaten century to help Horley to a crushing 124-run win at Great Brickhill 2nd.

Clark’s 130 not out and 53 from Perran Moon helped Horley to a formidable 274-8 in their 53 overs.

The hosts fell to 150 all out, Dave Eaton taking 3-15 and Pete Papenfus 3-54.

Blewbury & Wallingford edged past visitors Banbury 3rd by one wicket.

Colin Allen (3-27) and Scott Harris (3-51) combined to dismiss Banbury for 175 in 46 overs, before Warren Ainsworth (39no) led Blewbury to the narrowest of victories as they reached 177-9.

Oxford Downs 2nd had to settle for a draw with visitors Didcot.

Darryl Woods (56) and Wes Bartlett (55) helped Downs to 224-8 in their 53 overs, Jordan Morrison taking 3-53.

Simon Pritchard’s 65 was the main contribution in Didcot’s reply, but they were left hanging on 196-9 as Jack Soppett took 3-61.

Shipton-under-Wychwood 2nd had Tiddington 2nd clinging on for a draw, as they failed to prise out the visitors’ last two wickets.

Batting first, Shipton rattled up 240-5, Russell Hayes top-scoring with 71 and Tim Senior hitting 52.

Jeff Higgs scored 75 for Tiddington, but they lost regular wickets to close on 194-8.

Bledlow Village and Cub-lington drew a high-scoring affair, featuring two centuries.

The visitors racked up 284-9 as Pip Webb hammered a brilliant 167 not out, James Hawkes taking 4-62.

Harry Bartlett replied with 109 for Bledlow, but they finished just short on 277-9.

FIVE-wicket hauls from Ollie Burney and Ben Madden helped Witney Mills to a six-wicket victory against visitors Dinton 2nd in Division 4.

Burney claimed 5-26 and Madden 5-39 to dismiss Dinton for just 118, before veteran Malcolm Evans hit 41 not out to lead Mills to 119-4.

Leaders Westbury could not quite force victory against visitors Bicester & North Oxford, who clung on nine wickets down to grab a draw.

Westbury’s Will Gurney smashed 115 to help his side to 253-8 declared in 51 overs, Dan Savin taking 5-52.

Bicester lost wickets at regular intervals in their reply, Tom Young taking 4-48, but they finished on 200-9.

Arthur Muir top-scored with 41 in Oxford’s 209-7, before Andrew Busby took 5-55 to help dismiss Kimble for 182.

East Oxford fell to a crushing 145-run defeat at home to Brackley.

Chetan Walia’s 4-55 could not prevent Brackley from setting 225-6 in their 53 overs, and East Oxford were then shot out for just 80 as Rob Cartwright took 4-22.

Bletchley thumped hosts Stokenchurch by 157 runs as Matt Shepherd hit a century.

Shepherd’s 122 helped Bletchley to 251 all out, Ryan Gurton taking excellent figures of 7-47.

THAME Town 2nd stayed top after edging past hosts Kingston Bagpuize by 14 runs.

Richard Carr (57) and Liam Evans (41) saw Thame to 200-9 declared in 47 overs.

And the decision to give themselves three extra overs against the home side proved a wise one as Kingston were bowled out in the 51st over for 186, Toby Ricks top-scoring with 51.

Ian McStay (5-47) was the pick of the Thame attack with Alistair Thomas taking 4-54.

Gareth Benger grabbed 7-24 to skittle Vale out for just 63 in 28.3 overs, but then Buzzard were shot out for 57 in reply, Dan Hartley taking 5-14.

Banbury 4th crashed to a 122-run defeat at home to Bledlow Ridge.

John Rolfe top-scored with 86 as Bledlow Ridge reached 250 away to Banbury 4th.,

Didcot 2nd saw off Chearsley by two wickets.

Chearsley set 226-6 in their 53 overs as Marc Hignell hit 93 and Matt Ricketts 54.

Jim Head (51), Kieran Beesley (40) and Kunal Patel (37no) then led Didcot to victory at 230-8 with five balls to spare.

PATRICK Somerton took six wickets to help Cropredy 2nd to a seven-wicket victory to go top of Division 6.

Somerton claimed 6-20 and Mark Twynham 4-35 as Great & Little Tew 3rd were bundled out for 107 in the 41st over, Dave Freeman top-scoring with 33.

Tom Bunting then hit 50 not out to lead Cropredy to victory at 111-3.

Colin Simpson smashed an unbeaten 135 as Division 7 leaders Sandford St Martin 2nd beat hosts Wolverton 2nd by 95 runs.

The visitors declared on 228-4, before Wolverton fell to 133 all out in reply.

Veteran Mike Simpson took 5-25 as Bicester & North Oxford 2nd beat visitors Aston Rowant 4th by six wickets.

Rowant were held to 137-9 in their 45 overs, before Daniel Clark (46no) and Simpson (41no) led Bicester to 140-4.

Charlie Tredwell starred for Division 8 leaders Westbury 2nd as they beat hosts Bledlow Ridge 2nd by 51 runs.

Tredwell top-scored with 30 in Westbury’s 154-8, before claiming 5-8 in Bledlow's 103.

Tom Scrase’s unbeaten 115 was in vain for Kingston Bagpuize 2nd as they fell to a seven-wicket defeat at Abingdon Vale 4th in Division 9 South.

Scrase helped Kingston to 175-6 in their 45 overs, but 82 not out from Richard Matthews led Vale to 179-3.
