NEIL Wilkins was the hero as Oxfordshire Over 50s B beat Hampshire by one wicket in the final over in a sensational Southern Counties East Group clash at Paultons CC.

Mark Jackson’s superb 87 not out off as many deliveries saw the hosts post 195-6 from their 45 overs.

And when Oxon crumbled to 64-6, the writing was on the wall.

David Warner helped them to 105-8 and although that brought Wilkins to the crease, another wicket left Oxfordshire on the brink at 132-9.

Wilkins then decided to tee-off and started despatching the ball to all parts.

He was dropped twice by the hosts which proved crucial, but went on to smash 55 not out from 33 deliveries, including six sixes, as Oxon got home in the final over by one wicket.

Oxfordshire Over 60s proved too strong for Worcestershire in their West Midlands Group clash at Feckenham.

There were contributions from most of the team as Oxfordshire posted a handy 245-8 from their 45 overs.

Steven Partington led the way with 60, while Ady Manger (49), Andrew Wingfield Digby (37), Derek Watts (35) and Julian Lawton-Smith (27) all made important contributions.

Glyn Thomas’s 105 helped Worcestershire threaten Oxon’s total, but wickets fell steadily at the other end as the hosts closed on 182-7.
