ADAM Muttitt was Aston Rowant’s final-over hero as his side won the Oxfordshire final of the Pipers Crisps Village Cup in thrilling fashion at Cumnor.

Going into the final over of yesterday’s match, hosts Cumnor required just five to win, but spinner Muttitt took two wickets, including one off the very last ball to wrap up an enthralling victory.

Rowant elected to bat and looked in good shape to post a total in excess of 250 as Chris Watling (75) and Wes Morrick (60) made hay.

But they lost their final six wickets for just 23 runs to be bowled out for 207, aided by a hat-trick of run-outs.

Harry Ackland (3-23) and Alex Davies (3-31) were the pick of the bowlers.

The home side got off to a tremendous start in reply, openers Jimmy Lee and Davies putting on 89.

Ackland bludgeoned 38 in 32 balls, and when he fell, Cumnor needed 49 to win from 12 overs.

But the introduction of Muttitt (3-26) turned the game.

Going into the last over, all results were possible.

Muttitt dismissed Cumnor skipper Matt Lake for 28 off the fourth ball, and then, with the hosts needing two to win off the final delivery due to losing few wickets, Sam Powell holed out to Dan Matthews at deep mid-wicket.

Rowant now progress to the national stages, taking on the Berkshire winners in a fortnight.
