FOOTBALL: Williams fires hat-trick as Railwaymen go nap
9:20pm Sunday 10th February 2013 in Football
Morgan Williams scored his first hat-trick for Didcot Town as they ended a 13-month wait for an away win in Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West with an impressive 5-1 win at Taunton Town on Saturday.
It saw Gary Elkins’ side climb to eighth and within three points of the play-offs. The visitors were out of the blocks quickly and soon took the lead.
Williams fired in a shot from a tight angle which was deflected past keeper Grant Fisher by home defender Jamie Short.
Carl Cliff-Brown should have levelled before half-time, but fired over.
Shortly after the break, Williams was put clear by Elliott Osborne-Ricketts and made it 2-0.
Three minutes later, Didcot should have got a third when Mark Janes was hacked down in the area by Ben Mammola, who was sent off. However, Osborne-Ricketts saw his spot-kick hit a post.
But Ben Hepburn converted a Janes cross for No 3, before Janes made it 4-0.
Although Simon Ingram pulled one back, Williams completed his treble from another Janes cross.
Late on, Luke Carnell tripped Craig Herrod, but Marco Belloli-Pereira kept out Ingram’s penalty with a brilliant double-save as Didcot stretched their unbeaten run to six matches.
Didcot Tn: Belloli-Pereira, S Elkins, Stanley (Harris 87), Osborne-Ricketts, Carnell, Meade (Hepburn 12), M Janes, Heapy, Haysham (Bernasconi 32), Wray, M Williams. Subs not used: Pereira.
Attendance: 202.
