FOOTBALL: Larman fires hat-trick for Abingdon Town

TOM Larman hit a hat-trick inside the first 23 minutes to set Abingdon Town on the way to a 4-0 win over Newbury in the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division at Culham Road.

Larman sandwiched a brace of penalties in the seventh and 23rd minutes around a 20th-minute goal to put Town firmly in the driving seat. Josh Beech made it 4-0 after 27 minutes, and there was no further scoring.

Steve Howkins grabbed the winner as second-placed Ardley United came from behind to win 2-1 at Thame United.

Matt Hall opened the scoring for Thame after eight minutes, but Troy Bryan levelled two minutes after half-time and Howkins secured victory on 62 minutes. Richie Claydon’s 55th-minute strike was enough to give Wantage Town a 1-0 win at lowly Reading Town. Oxford City Nomads beat near neighbours Kidlington 3-1 at Marsh Lane.

Louis Joyce’s opener for Nomads was cancelled out by Jack Dunmall before the break, but second-half strikes from Andrew Styles and Adam Lovegrove gave the hosts victory.
