FOOTBALL: Didcot's third defeat on the week

Didcot Town suffered their third single-goal defeat in a week when going 1-0 down at home to Evesham in Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South and West on Saturday.

If the defeats at Shortwood and Yate were unfortunate, there were no complaints this time as Didcot played second fiddle in their worst display of 2013.

Didcot’s best spell came early on. Morgan Williams saw a free-kick deflected onto the bar, while Mark Janes had an effort ruled out for offside.

From that moment, Evesham piled forward almost at will.

Carl Brown had a shot hacked off the line by Didcot defender Luke Carnell, before Evesham scored the only goal in the 22nd minute.

After an interchange of passes, Marcus Palmer set up Leigh Downing, who swept home from ten yards.

Palmer was then denied by Marcos Belloli-Pereira.

The Didcot keeper had to produce another super stop to deny Brown just before the interval.

The second half descended into a rather fractious affair, with niggling fouls and all too often tempers spilling over on both sides, with Belloli-Per-eira the busier keeper.

Didcot Tn: Belloli-Pereira, Elkins, Wray, Carnell, Allaway (Bernasconi 53), Stanley, Tappin, Heapy, Meade, M Janes, M Williams (T Janes 88). Subs not used: Hepburn, Harris, Pereira Attendance: 130.
