FOOTBALL: Didcot boss Wallbridge hails Beesley contribution
Didcot Town boss Andy Wallbridge says the emergence of teenage keeper Kieran Beesley shows that young talent will be given a chance at the Calor League club.
Since he took over from regular No 1 Gareth Tucker, Beesley has put on a number of fine displays and Wallbridge says the future looks bright for the youngster, who comes from the town.
“Kieran is doing well for us,” said Wallbridge. “He had an opportunity presented to him when Gareth made himself unavailable for a game and hasn’t looked back.
“ He’s just turned 18 and has an exciting future ahead of him.
“Keiran is a good example of what we are trying to do here.
“We have a lot of young lads here and they will get better by learning from their mistakes.
“And the only way they can do that is by playing matches.
“I wanted to play at the highest level and these youngsters should not let an opportunity to play pass them by.”
Wallbridge, whose side knocked Premier Division Burnham out of the FA Cup last weekend, is looking for more of the same at home to fellow Division 1 South & West outfit Cirencester Town in the FA Trophy preliminary round tomorrow. “We’re not going to win the FA Cup – we hope to get through a few rounds and draw a big club – but the Trophy is something we can do well in.
“It’s another big game for the club and there is more prize-money involved.
“Everyone was upset by the Bishops Cleeve game (they lost 4-0) and hopefully our performance in the Burnham game showed we have put it behind us.
“And we will approach the Cirencester game in the same way.” Didcot will be without Joel Meades and Pablo Haysham, who are both serving suspensions from their respective red cards against Bishops Cleeve. Meade sits out a further game for his sending off against Shortwood.
Jamie Heapy, who is recovering from a knee operation, and Sam Elkins (ankle) miss out.
Didcot Tn (v Cirencester Tn, home): from Beesley, Langford, Carnell, S Parish, Janes, Morris, Ferreira, McKirnan, Williams, Mills, Joyce, Blenford, Thorne, Thomas, Tucker.
