FOOTBALL: Gee keeping Millers grounded
10:00am Friday 11th October 2013 in Football
North Leigh boss Mark Gee is backing his side to continue their Calor League winning run at Mangotsfield United tomorrow.
The Millers won their seventh successive league match with a 1-0 victory over Thatcham on Tuesday to stay top of Division 1 South & West, but Gee sees no signs of complacency setting in.
“We have a good mix of youth and experience and we’ve all been in similar situations before,” he said.
“We’re not getting carried away. We’ve got a very tough run of games coming up soon against four or five of the teams around us so I think we’ll have a better idea of where we are after Christmas.”
He added: “It’s worked out well for us this year because we’ve started the season with a good run – usually we’re playing catch-up by now!”
Gee is set to name an unchanged squad, with Michael Alexis (hamstring) the only absentee.
Banbury United manager Edwin Stein has urged his side to tighten up for their Premier Division game at home to Truro City tomorrow.
The Puritans have only kept one clean sheet so far this season and Stein admitted it was causing him concern.
“I spoke to my centre forward yesterday and he was asking me why we always have to score three or four goals to win a game,” he said.
“Every time the ball goes dead, so do we and it leads to silly mistakes and soft goals.”
Banbury are without Wayne Blossom and Scott Bridges, who serve the last match of their three-game bans.
Banbury Utd (v Truro City, home): from Bedwell, Cray, Westwood, Pinto, Morgan, McNulty, Mbamarah, Ryan, Lawless, Martin, Simpson, Isaac, Talabi, Abrahams.
North Leigh (v Mangotsfield Utd, away): from White, Hole, Organ, Osborne-Ricketts, Walcott, Gunn, Caton, Sanders, Bowles, Turk, Woodley, McDonagh, Williams, Else, Westlake, Dutton-Black.
