Referee Mateusz Filipiak dished out an incredible seven red cards as Thame United were beaten 2-0 at home to Highworth Town in the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division on Saturday, writes Matthew Bruce.

Four of those were handed to Thame players, with Louis Cordice the first to go from the home side for dissent 20 minutes from time.

Ellis Hercules followed for what some deemed an tame challenge.

Ben Connelly and Matt Willett also saw red following an altercation with Highworth’s Toby Clark, who was also dismissed.

Chris Flanagan and Brad Clark also saw red for the visitors.

Although comments from Highworth manager John Fisher suggested that both clubs were looking to complain about Filipiak, Thame have said they are waiting for the referee’s report before making any comment on the events.

Highworth were unavailable for comment.

Hellenic League general manager Brian King said that the league had yet to hear from either club and were awaiting reports from both clubs and the referee.

“It’s certainly an unusual occurrence,” said King. “We can’t roll the clock back. What happens in that rectangle of grass happens and there’s little point debating it after the fact.

“If there is to be any further action taken, it will be by the respective county FAs.”
