Substitute Kayden Jackson hit an injury-time equaliser to earn Oxford City a 1-1 draw at Colwyn Bay in Skrill North on Saturday.

It was the perfect response by Jackson, who was left out of the starting line-up by boss Mike Ford.

City had been under considerable pressure and appeared to be slipping to defeat after Rob Hopley had given the hosts a 72nd-minute lead.

But it was surprising it took Colwyn Bay, who had won their previous six games, so long to breach the City defence after subjecting the visitors to a first-half onslaught.

Gareth Evans was unlucky to see his early cross-cum-shot prodded over the bar by an outstretched leg as the hosts forced a succession of corners.

Marc Williams hit a post with a weak header after finding space in the box as the hosts piled on the pressure.

Hopley was twice foiled by the churned Llanelian Road pitch as he scuffed well over after finding himself with two great shooting opportunities.

Goalkeeper Victor Francoz was also called upon to prevent City from falling behind, getting down superbly to smother at the feet of Hopley as he advanced clean through on goal.

Having weathered the storm, City looked the brighter side after the break.

Darren Pond headed into the arms of Colwyn keeper Chris Sanna and Tom Winters saw his low drive fly narrowly wide in the opening minutes.

But the hosts reasserted their dominance, with Louis Moss scooping over.

They finally made the breakthrough moments later despite the efforts of Francoz, who responded excellently to keep out Marc Williams’ header, but could do nothing to stop Hopley bundling in the rebound.

City introduced Jackson late on as well as Spanish midfielder Julián Serrano for his debut after signing from Finnish club Seinäjoen Jalkapallokerho.

Jamie Cook was unable to find a finish when presented with a glorious chance after Winters had rounded the goalkeeper and cut the ball back.

But with time running out, City got their reward when Jackson fired a low, angled shot into the corner to earn a point.
