Another late postponement left Oxford City manager Mike Ford frustrated as his side’s Skrill North trip to Workington on Saturday was foiled by a waterlogged pitch.

It was a bitter blow for City, who had travelled up the day before and now have to repeat their longest trip of the season on a Tuesday night.

“It’s just frustrating really,” said Ford. “It’s not the fact that we travelled yesterday and have been here this morning, it’s just the fact that we are desperate for a game of football.

“We did the prep, we spoke a bit at the hotel and it’s literally as soon as we’ve finished talking about the game we’ve heard that it’s off.

“The pitch is very wet, there’s no question it should be called off, but it’s just disappointing that it’s been called off so late.”

City have played just twice this year and have as many as four games in hand on some of their rivals.

But Ford insisted he is not concerned about a fixture pile-up after successfully guiding his side through a similar period last season.

He said: “If we have to do Saturday-Tuesday for the next two months then we’ll do it.

“We’ve done it before and we were successful and we'll do it again.”
