Wroe's in wonderland after another screamer + match highlights video
NICKY Wroe admitted he could get used to scoring quality long-range efforts.
The on-loan midfielder smashed in a last-gasp winner at Wycombe last month, and on Saturday drilled home a long-range effort to put Oxford United 2-0 ahead against Mansfield Town.
Wroe thinks his strike at Wycombe was the better, but was thrilled with his left-foot finish nonetheless.
“The Wycombe one probably edges it, but I’m really pleased with that one, considering it was with my weaker foot,” he said.
“I don’t know where those two have come from actually, but it’s nice to get a couple of screamers.
“In the last few games the manager has been wanting me to sit in a bit more so I haven’t had too many opportunities, but I ended up on the edge of the box.
“He probably wasn’t very happy with how far forward I was, but it dropped to me, I didn’t have a great touch and then managed to get it out my feet with my second and then just had a shot and it went in.”
Wroe acknowledges that United’s display was a backs-to-the-wall effort at times, but says that they will do whatever they have to in order to pick up three points.
“When I first came into the club the home form was not that great, but we have managed to turn that around,” he said.
“It wasn’t the prettiest game, but conditions dictated that, and if we have to get wins by grinding it, then that’s what we will do.
“In the first ten or 15 minutes, we weren’t as good as we could have been, so it was very important we really kept the pressure on in the second half and used the conditions to our advantage.
“It was a day where the defenders had to put bodies on the line and they were doing that – throwing themselves in front of shots.
“We have got a good group here and you could see that everybody tries to help each other out.”
