FOOTBALL: Oxford City boss makes Ardley favourites in cup semi

The Oxford Times: Mike Ford Mike Ford

OXFORD City boss Mike Ford says he has no choice but to name a mixture of squad players and youngsters for tonight’s semi-final against Ardley United at Thame United.

It comes amid a congested league schedule, prompting Ford to suggest the tournament could be moved.

“I’m wondering if the format should be changed to possibly a pre-season competition,” said Ford whose side are battling relegation from Skrill North.

“Staying in this division is the priority, so we have to concentrate on that.

“This is the second time in the last three years that I have had to field a below-strength side in the latter stages of the cup.

“It would benefit us as a football club if we didn’t have to cram in all these fixtures.

“We wil try and win it, but Ardley have got to be favourites.”
