Nicky Wroe admits he has plenty to play for as the midfielder looks to turn his loan spell at Oxford United into a permanent move.

The U’s host Accrington Stanley tomorrow in what could be their final home match of the season.

Back-to-back defeats over the Easter weekend mean United are very much outsiders to make the Sky Bet League Two play-offs, with head coach Gary Waddock stating that every player’s future is at stake.

Wroe joined on loan in January from Preston North End and has made 15 starts for the U’s.

Despite the Lillywhites securing a place in the League One play-offs, the 28-year-old is not expecting to return to Deepdale, even if United fall short of the top seven.

Out of contract this summer, the former Barnsley trainee is looking at his options.

He said: “I won’t be part of Preston’s play-off campaign, I’ve signed here to the end of the season so that’s me done up there.

“My deal’s up, so I’m available.

“I’m looking to go somewhere else.

“I’ve enjoyed my time here so I’ll have to wait and see if I get any offers.

“When I signed here that was the whole aim, to come down and possibly earn a deal. That has not changed.”

Going into the final two games of the season, United know they must take maximum points and rely on either York City or Southend United slipping up twice.

It is a huge turnaround for the U’s, who had a 13-point cushion over eighth place two months ago.

Wroe struggled to explain why the season had collapsed so spectacularly and acknowledged at one stage it appeared highly unlikely they would miss out altogether.

He said: “I suppose from the position we were in, it seemed like it would be really difficult, or something would have to happen, to fall out of the play-offs.

“Obviously it’s really disappointing, but we’ve just got to get on with it and look to put on a positive show.

“I don’t think there’s one particular reason why, people will make their own minds up.”
