Michael Appleton is hoping Oxford United can continue their pre-season progress as Wolverhampton Wanderers visit the Kassam Stadium tonight (7.45).

The U’s have won five games out of five so far and were impressive as they beat Fulham’s development side 3-0 on Saturday.

But two home games against Championship opposition, with Bournemouth arriving on Saturday, will provide a stern test of their credentials.

Appleton, who will be in charge at the Kassam for the first time, is looking forward to seeing how United deal with higher-class opponents.

The head coach said: “We are up against better opposition so we might not have as much possession as we’ve had.

“We will certainly try to do that, but I just hope the supporters see what we’ve seen over the last three or four games with what we’re trying to do and why we’re trying to do it.”

Michael Collins should be available after missing Saturday’s game with a sore heel, but a mild calf strain could rule Alfie Potter out.

Joe Riley, signed on loan yesterday, is expected to play.

Wolves, champions of Sky Bet League One last season, are captained by Sam Ricketts, who made 48 appearances for United before leaving in 2003.
