Teenager Carlton Morris says he has no concerns about shouldering the pressure of leading the line for Oxford United after signing on loan.

The England Under 19 international completed a move from Norwich City yesterday, which will keep him at the Kassam Stadium until January.

It provides a welcome boost for United, who have been looking to reinforce their attacking options throughout pre-season.

Despite Morris only making his debut for Norwich’s first-team in a friendly last week, the U’s will be looking for the 18-year-old to hit the ground running when the season starts this weekend.

But the weight of expectation to score goals holds no fears for the rising star.

“As a striker it’s something you have in your whole career, so you either get used to it or change position,” he said.

“I’ve played in lots of varieties of football now and I just take it as it goes.

“You have to adapt to every game and I’m ready for the challenge. I’m just excited to get going with it.”

Morris has been at Norwich since he was a ten-year-old and was part of the Norwich side which impressively won the FA Youth Cup final against Chelsea two seasons ago.

Although the Canaries were relegated from the Premier League last season, the chances of first-team football in this campaign were limited.

And when he became aware of United’s interest, there was only going to be one outcome.

Morris said: “I got a call from my agent that there was some interest from a top League Two club.

“As soon as he told me I put two and two together and Oxford was top of that list.

“I’m buzzing to finally be here. It’s a big club with a lot of history, so why wouldn’t you want to be a part of that?”

Michael Appleton was thrilled to secure the livewire front man’s services amid interest from elsewhere.

The U’s head coach said: “We have always said that we will wait until the right player is available, someone we believe will strengthen what we already have, and Carlton fits the bill perfectly.”

United’s boss also made clear it was not the end of their search to add competition for places up front this month.

“We will though continue our efforts to bring in further attacking options before the transfer window closes,” he said.
