Banbury United will be back in the spotlight tonight when they entertain Hereford United in the Premier Division following the bottle-throwing incident which led to Saturday’s game being abandoned.

The match against Slough Town was called off at half-time after referee Lee Sheridan was struck by an empty plastic water bottle as he walked off at the interval.

Banbury have banned the culprit – a 15-year-old boy – while the Football Association are looking into the matter.

Meanwhile, midfielder Ben Whitehead could make his debut for Banbury this evening after signing from Didcot Town.

Banbury are second bottom following three straight defeats and Saturday’s abandonment, but manager Paul Davis feels the new addition will provide his team with a much-needed boost.

He said: “Ben brings goals to the side. He should create lots of chances and we’re very happy to have him.

“He’s obviously been at a professional club in the past with Swindon Town and he’s only 20, so he’s about the same age as most of our other players.

“Didcot have been really helpful with getting all of the paperwork done, so we’re really thankful to them.”

Banbury also welcome back striker Adeyinka Talabi.

In Division 1 South & West, midfielder Josh Dutton-Black will face a late fitness test to assess a knee injury as Didcot Town host Bashley.
