Histon 3

(Phillips 28, Key 57, Relizani 85)

Banbury Utd 0

Banbury United are now without a win in nine Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division games after being swept aside at Histon.

With Tom Ryan suspended, Joel Meade and Jack Westbrook ill, and Ade Talabi struggling with a shoulder injury, manager Paul Davis fielded a much-changed side.

Included in the basement boys’ starting line-up was former Oxford United scholar Duran Martin.

The 18-year-old midfielder, who has been playing for Old Woodstock Town, is the brother of Banbury’s Marvin Martin.

Histon put Banbury under early pressure with Mateusz Kuzimski lofting the ball over Leigh Bedwell from the edge of the area only for his effort to hit the bar and go over.

Tye Phillips then shot over from the edge of the area.

Banbury came more into the game, but fell behind in the 28th minute when the hosts broke quickly and a good passing move ended with Nick Freeman crossing low from the right for Phillips to shoot home from 15 yards.

The Puritans responded well with Jordan Green, in particular, causing Histon problems, but without any end product.

Histon, though, began the second half well on top and they doubled the lead in the 57th minute.

Evan Key prodded a bouncing ball home from close in.

Banbury’s fate was sealed five minutes from time with a 25-yard strike from Salim Relizani, which Bedwell got a hand to, but couldn’t stop it going in.

Banbury Utd: Bedwell, Cray, M Martin, Whitehead (Talabi HT), White, Hartigan (Tappin 52), Walcott, D Martin, Howards, Green, Browne (George 63). Subs not used: Hayden, Smith.

Attendance: 195.
