June 8.

Once again we are subjected to the wild fantasies of Adam Busby and

there is another story attached to his name about Willie McRae -- or

about slurring Willie McRae's memory, which is more like it (June 8).

Adam Busby could be happily dismissed except for his repeated attacks

on Willie McRae, who for many can only be described as a great

Nationalist and a worker who fought on all nuclear issues, which he felt

threatened the future of Scotland.

I am surprised and annoyed that a story such as this can be printed

once more. It is filled with inaccuracies and draws assumptions that are

nothing short of slander.

We will never know with any certainty what exactly happened to Willie

McRae. Only Willie and anyone else who may have been there knows exactly

that. Ronnie, his partner, did not phone the police before the incident.

That is a fact.

His friends (and I count myself one) noted no neurotic behaviour in

the weeks before his death. I had a meeting with him on the Wednesday

and we discussed future action on a project we were both involved in.

Michael Strathern also spoke to him on Thursday or Friday before he

started his journey, and again there were plans for the future. So there

was no hint, as your article states, of ''a man bent on suicide''.

Neither I nor any of Willie's friends that I know of were talked into

the ''conspiracy theory'', as you call it, by Busby or Dinsmore, both of

whom were out of Scotland long before any of this occurred.

Newspaper articles with half-truths and innuendo will not help

discover the truth, and articles that build credibility for someone like

Busby while tearing apart a man like Willie McRae can only been seen as

very sinister indeed and harmful to the cause Willie fought for. So why

is this being done?
