A CALL on the labour and trade union movement to step up support for

the sacked Timex workers, including the organisation of mass

demonstrations, came yesterday from Mr Alan Tuffin, general secretary of

the Union of Communications Workers and this year's TUC chairman.

Addressing the UCW conference in Jersey, Mr Tuffin urged an

international trade union boycott of Timex products and revealed that

the president of Communications Workers of America, Mr Monty Barr, had

that day cabled US President Bill Clinton informing him of the dispute

and urging him to ''dump his Timex watch''.
