SHARP-SHOOTER John Mills has yet to decide where he’ll be playing his football next season after a stellar campaign with Didcot Town, writes MATTHEW BRUCE.

The 25-year-old hit an incredible 57 goals for the Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West club this season.

He picked up the All About Ballerz Golden Boot at the National Game Awards at Fulham’s Craven Cottage after finishing as the top scorer in the whole non-league pyramid.

Inevitably, Mills’ exploits have attracted attention from other clubs, including at Conference and Conference South level.

“I’ve had a couple of clubs come calling and it’s exciting to see how high I can go,” said Mills.

“Last week’s awards ceremony was a good chance for me to get myself out there and talk to a few other clubs and just see what’s on offer.

“It’s exciting to see what they want from me.”

Mills chose to remain at Didcot throughout last season despite offers from higher-placed clubs and could still stay there for another year.

“I’ve certainly not ruled out staying at Didcot,” he said.

“I’ve been happy there and I know they will be adding to the squad with the aim of winning the league, or at least promotion.

“I’ve never been in a side which has been promoted, so I would really love to do that.”

Town’s joint manager, Ian Concannon, said: “We obviously want him to stay, because we don’t want to lose a player who’s got us 57 goals this season.

“We have a structure in place and we can’t break the bank for anyone.

“But ultimately we want to keep him and we’re going to try and keep him.”

Meanwhile, Jamie Heapy was named Didcot Town’s clubman of the year at their end of season awards.

Joint-manager Heapy recently had a testimonial to acknowledge his long-service to the club and was rewarded for his dedication to the Railwaymen.

Adam Learoyd won the manager’s player while Mills picked up the players’ player and, unsurprinsingly, the golden boot award.

Sam Elkins was awarded the supporters’ player of the year while Jack Self was awarded young player.
